TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Congratulating for the senator’s victory, the Malacanang Palace called Manny Pacquiao a “national treasure” on Sunday, November 6.
In a statement, presidential communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the “discipline, the determination, and the hard work of our People’s Champ are truly what make him a National Treasure in Global Sports.”
Andanar added that Pacquiao’s win has once again united and brought joy to Filipinos.
Pacquiao on Sunday (Manila time) defeated Jessie Vargas via unanimous decision at the Thomas Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. (READ: Pacquiao wins over Vargas via unanimous decison.)
Judges scored their fight 114-113, 118-109, 118-109, all in favor for “Pacman.”
Meanwhile, Andanar, despite Nonito Donaire’s loss, said the boxer “remains ‘The Filipino Flash’ with his quick hand speed and formidable punching power.”
Donaire lost his WBO Junior Featherweight belt after losing to Jessie Magdaleno at scores 116-112, 116-112 and 118-110.
